As part of the Holy Year, the Embassy for the Roma People of the Sovereign Order of Malta organised a pilgrimage to Rome for Sinti and Roma from Romania, Albania and Ukraine, the highlight of which was a meeting with the Holy Father Pope Leo XIV.
Chavore is a joint initiative by Caritas Graz-Seckau and the Malteser Hospitaldienst Austria in Styria, supported by the Special Ambassador of the Order of Malta for Roma. Founded in 2016, Chavore, which means "children" in the Romani language, focuses on the integration of Roma children by emphasizing education, social integration, and human dignity.

On February 11, 2025, the Catholic Church worldwide will observe the World Day of the Sick. This day serves as a reminder of the dignity and rights of the sick and suffering and calls for solidarity and compassion. This year, the special message of the Order of Malta focuses particularly on Roma communities, who, in many parts of the world, face health challenges, social exclusion, and limited access to medical care.
With the enchanting smile of this child from our last summer camp in Romania, I would like to express my deepest thanks to you in this reflective pre-Christmas time. For the coming year, we ask you to continue to stand by our side. Together we can achieve even more - bring more light into the darkness, more hope into the hearts of many People. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Sovereign Order of Malta’s status as Permanent Observer to the United Nations, the Grand Master Fra‘ John Dunlap, accompanied by the Grand Chancellor Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo and the Grand Hospitaller Fra’ Alessandro de Franciscis, paid an official visit to the United Nations in Geneva.
Dr. Franz Salm-Reifferscheidt remains a pivotal figure in humanitarian diplomacy, dedicated to giving a voice to the most vulnerable members of society and helping them find their place within it. His work for the Roma communities across Europe will have a lasting legacy, serving as an inspiring example of the transformative power of diplomacy, cooperation, and humanity.
