With great joy and deep gratitude, the Embassy for Roma People of the Sovereign Order of Malta welcomes the election of Pope Leo XIV, the 267th successor of Saint Peter and Bishop of Rome. The American-Peruvian Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected as the new Pontiff in the fourth round of voting and has taken the name Leo XIV.
With sincere joy, we congratulate Pope Leo XIV. on his election. We assure him of our prayers and our unwavering loyalty. May the Holy Spirit guide him throughout his pontificate, granting him wisdom, strength, and courage to lead the Church in these challenging times with hope and love.
The Embassy emphasizes its deep spiritual bond with the new Pope, who was already affiliated with the Order of Malta as a cardinal. His words from the Benediction Loggia: a call for peace, dialogue, and closeness to the suffering; reflect core values that also shape the mission of the Order.
We see his election as a sign of divine providence and the beginning of a new chapter for the universal Church. The Order of Malta, especially in its international mission, stands ready to support the Holy Father in his service to the poor, the sick, and the marginalized.
The Embassy for Roma People joins the prayers of the entire Church and asks for God’s abundant blessing upon Pope Leo XIV, that his pontificate may be a beacon of faith, hope, and charity.
