Chavore is a joint initiative by Caritas Graz-Seckau and the Malteser Hospitaldienst Austria in Styria, supported by the Special Ambassador of the Order of Malta for Roma. Founded in 2016, Chavore, which means „children“ in the Romani language, focuses on the integration of Roma children by emphasizing education, social integration, and human dignity.

The project addresses deep-rooted challenges such as discrimination, educational deficits, and social isolation faced by Roma children. By providing individual support, educational and social promotion, and structural assistance, Chavore helps integrate Roma children into the education system. The project collaborates with schools, kindergartens, youth welfare offices, and other institutions to break down barriers and create opportunities.

Chavore offers a variety of measures tailored to the needs of children and their families, including job market integration projects, school and kindergarten placements, financial support for after-school care, and individual learning support. The project also organizes leisure and outdoor activities to strengthen social skills and actively combats anti-Roma discrimination through comprehensive educational work.

In 2024, Chavore supported 65 children, including 17 with special needs, and organized eight events and adventure days. The project provided 180 learning support sessions, helping children improve their academic performance. Personal success stories, like those of Raissa and Matthias, highlight the project’s impact on individual lives.

Chavore is more than a project; it is a movement and a community dedicated to ensuring equal opportunities for all children, regardless of their background or social status. The vision remains: equal chances for every child to shape their own future.
