On October 14, 2022, a special concert took place in Vienna, dedicated to the promotion and integration of Roma children. For over 20 years, the Sovereign Order of Malta has been committed to integrating Roma children into society in eight European countries. A central focus of this effort is on providing school tutoring, offering children better educational opportunities and future prospects. Many of the supported children have now entered professional life or are studying at universities.<\/p>\n
One outstanding project of the Order of Malta is the “Maltai Szimfonia” children’s orchestra in Hungary. Around 700 children receive music lessons here, which not only nurtures their musical talents but also strengthens their social skills and opens up new opportunities for them. For the concert in Vienna, 50 of these talented young musicians, accompanied by their teachers, were invited to perform before a select audience.<\/p>\n
Dr. Franz Salm-Reifferscheidt, Special Ambassador of the Order of Malta for Roma, hosted the evening and informed the guests about the many projects aimed at integrating this largest European minority. The evening became a remarkable testimony to the success story of the Malteser Roma Aid. Among the distinguished guests were Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and his wife Doris Schmidauer, as well as the Grand Prior of the Order of Malta in Austria, Fra\u2019 Gottfried K\u00fchnelt-Leddhin.<\/p>\n
The young musicians delighted the audience with their performances both before and after the presentation. Particularly moving was the joy they brought to the stage\u2014there was even dancing! The guests were visibly touched and impressed by the children’s high-level musical performance.<\/p>\n
After the concert, all attendees were invited to enjoy a buffet and drinks, rounding off the evening in a convivial atmosphere. All proceeds from the event will go to support the Roma Aid projects of the Order of Malta, allowing them to continue their valuable work in promoting and supporting young Roma.<\/p>\n
